Information for Parents

Somerset Academy is a Keystone STAR 4 Learning Center committed to evaluating and teaching according to each child’s unique learning style.

Alongside a comprehensive academic curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten, Somerset Academy fosters an arts-rich environment that includes  art, music and dance.  We utilize Brightwheel as a communication tool to keep parents informed. Through Brightwheel, parents  and caregivers  can easily connect with their child’s teachers and caregivers. 

At Somerset Academy, we prioritize health, conducting  daily health checks and entry screenings for all children.

Assistance Programs

We work with the following programs to help you offset the rising costs of quality early childhood education. We assist Somerset Parents with applications for services and funding, once your child has been confirmed as a Somerset Student. 

PHL Pre-K

PHLpreK is the City of Philadelphia’s FREE, quality Pre-K program. All children who are 3 or 4 by September 1, 2024 and reside in Philadelphia County are eligible. There are no income requirements for participation in this pre-K program.

Pre-K Counts

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts provides free half-day or full-day pre-kindergarten for at-risk children throughout Pennsylvania. The child must be between the age of 3 and younger than the Kindergarten entry age for the district that they reside in.

Early Head Start (EHS)

Early Head Start focuses on the needs of pregnant women, infants, and toddlers under age 3.

EHS also offers weekly educational supports in your home as an option for you to continue to support your child’s development outside of the classroom.

Child Care Works

The subsidized child care program helps low-income families pay their child care fees. The state and federal governments fund this program, which is managed by the Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC)—formerly Child Care Information Services (CCIS)—office located in your county.

Head Start

Head Start (HS) provides no-cost full day/full year child care for eligible families and their children ages 3 to 5 at agencies in your local community.

The program prepares children to enter school ready to learn and supports a child’s mental, social, and emotional development. Head Start programs also provide participating children and their families with information on health, nutrition, social development, and other services.
